How to Increase Line Efficiency while Achieving Even Less?

Increase Line Efficiency while Achieving Even Less

One of the useful performance measuring tools is efficiency report. We measure line efficiency to know how effectively perform of that line operator. An efficient line will produce a greater number of quality products, with less waste and proper use of other resources during a given period than the inefficient line.

By increasing production we can increase line efficiency. As we know, efficiency mainly depend on Output & Input then we can improve efficiency also by decreasing or saving OT hour when SMV is constant.

Efficiency = (Output*SMV*100) ÷ (Manpower*Working hour*60)

For example: Finishing supervisor Harun produced 1150 pcs last day at 10 hours by 14 manpower. If the garment SMV is 6.30 then calculate yesterday line efficiency.

Efficiency = (1150*6.30*100)/ (14*10*60)

= 724500/8400

= 86%

But today in case of 30 min lost time, 57 pcs production will be loss. Then how we achieve same efficiency when other all data / resources remain same?

If after 5 PM, give leave 3 operators or 6 operator at 6PM then OT will save 6 hour. Working hour also will reduce 6 hour from the total minute.

Here produce qty (1150-57) = 1093 pcs, Manpower 14, Working hour 10 & SMV 6.30

Now,

Efficiency = (1093*6.30*100)/ ((14*10)-6)*60))

        =688590/8040

        =85.64%

        =86%

Efficiency remain same.

Then Equation Will be…

Efficiency = (Output*SMV*100) ÷ ((Manpower*Working hour)-Save hour))*60

Always it is very good increase efficiency by Increasing Productivity. But there is a way we can do if need. To apply this WIP need to consider first because next process should run continuously & work also should available first hour on next day those are given leave today for smooth production.
